Project
The purpose of the Foundation La Vue Pour La Vie – Eyesight4life is to create screening campaigns, to offer treatment of visual impairment and to provide training to ophthalmologists in the countries in which it is active. Haiti was chosen for its pilot project (Ophtalmological Center).
The Ophthalmological Center project will be based on 3 axes:
- Mass screening of ocular pathologies within the population: each patient presenting a pathology during this screening will be made aware of his problem, which will then have to be investigated. To do this, a personalized coupon will be given which allows to benefit from a thorough ophthalmological examination for free.
- Establishment of a complete technical platform and training of residents of the University Hospital of Haiti (HUEH).
- Establishment of a complete surgical platform that will have a dual purpose. The first is to familiarize young Haitian ophthalmologists with modern ophthalmic surgical techniques, always under the supervision of volunteer foreign doctors. It will also introduce new surgical methods in this country. It will offer the Haitian community an outpatient surgical unit for most of the pathologies that we will be able to meet.
Country of birth of the founder, Haiti has been confronted for some years, with an extremely precarious situation from a social and in particular medical point of view.
Today, this island has less than a hundred ophthalmologists for a population of around 12 million.
The Foundation La vue pour la vie – eyesight4life intends to play a key role in the development of ophthalmology in this country to combat endemic blindness.
For this, 3 axes will be developed:
- Screening of the population with the help of traveling vehicles in villages and schools
- The installation of a technical platform to refine the diagnosis following the screening
- Creation of an operating room for the management of surgical pathologies
A regular round of different Swiss and European ophthalmologists will be organized to promote the learning of new techniques to local doctors (medical and surgical).
